Sherpur Beheading Solved in 24 Hours: Twisted Romance Leads to Grisly Murder; Two Arrested
A Grim Discovery
Late afternoon on May 18, a chilling discovery unsettled the residents of Notun Bagalgar village. Tucked away inside a Napier grass field—just a short distance from a local home—police recovered the decapitated, semi-decomposed body of a young man. The victim’s father soon arrived at the scene, identifying his son, Al Amin, solely by the trousers and shoes left behind. A formal murder case (No. 39) was promptly lodged at the Sherpur Sadar Police Station. Recognizing the gravity of the crime, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Jamalpur Unit immediately launched a shadow probe under the direct supervision of top PBI officials.
The PBI Shadow Probe and Swift Arrests
Relying heavily on digital intelligence and advanced tracking, the PBI team zeroed in on their prime suspect within just 24 hours. By 5:30 PM the following day, detectives apprehended 19-year-old Shuvo—a resident of the Pathalia Sondhiclub area—from a cluster village in Sherpur.
An Alleged Motive Born of Humiliation
A review of the FIR and confessional statements recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC reveals a dark, tangled motive. Investigators report that Shuvo was romantically involved with Al Amin’s widowed sister. The situation escalated when Al Amin allegedly demanded that Shuvo break off the relationship, countering with his own proposition to date Shuvo’s sister.
The tipping point reportedly came over a financial dispute. Shuvo had asked Al Amin for a BDT 100,000 loan to set up a motorcycle garage. According to case files, Al Amin agreed—but on the alleged condition that he be allowed physical intimacy with Shuvo’s sister. Feeling profoundly humiliated, Shuvo allegedly began plotting a lethal revenge.
The Alleged Execution
To carry out the gruesome plan, Shuvo reportedly hired an associate, 20-year-old Samrat, for a meager BDT 10,000. Around noon on May 13, Shuvo allegedly lured Al Amin to the isolated grass field on a borrowed motorcycle, secretly carrying a sharp knife. He also instructed Samrat to wait nearby.
While Al Amin was distracted by his mobile phone, Shuvo allegedly ambushed him from behind, strangling him with a thin nylon rope. As the victim lost consciousness, Samrat reportedly pinned his head down, allowing Shuvo to slit his throat and ensure death. Following Shuvo’s arrest, investigators successfully recovered both the motorcycle and the bloodied rope allegedly used in the crime. Based on his initial interrogation, police quickly tracked down and arrested Samrat later that same evening.
Confessions and the Path Forward
Both accused were presented before the court, where Shuvo voluntarily delivered a confessional statement detailing the crime. Adding weight to the prosecution’s case, the owner of the borrowed motorcycle also provided a witness statement under Section 164 of the CrPC.
Reflecting on the rapid breakthrough, the Superintendent of Police for PBI Jamalpur noted that the agency mobilized a specialized team the moment the news broke.
By dividing responsibilities and maintaining constant operational oversight, our team was able to crack the core mystery of this horrific crime in record time.
The formal investigation remains active as authorities piece together the final details.
